Paxton Pits Nature Reserve, 6th August 2015,

The nightingales are really elusive at this time of the year. I did see a couple of kingfishers and a swinming grass snake. Also hundreds of dragonflies.

East Hertfordshire Bimble.

A week off work so I had to go somewhere. Feeling flu-ey so had no energy or inclination.
Compromised. I took a train to Royston station, then wandered through the east Hertfordshire countryside, back to Stevenage.

I was less well than I thought as I found it a real effort, despite covering only 60, very slow kilometres.

Roytson. Reminds me of Wells-Next-The-Sea for some reason.

Three views of Barley.

Looking east into Essex.

Nuthampstead. There was a US bomber base here during WW2.

Anstey.

Village lock-up at Anstey.

Burial tumulus near Brent Pelham. Very similar to Stevenage's Six Hills.

Brent Pelham.

Violets lane. Supposed to be the world's longest ford.
Really its just a river bed as all traces of road surface have long since
been washed away.

A much drier part of Violets Lane.

Furneux pelham.

Tiny Norman church at Little Hormead.

Little Hormead.

Near Hare Street. I think my bike counts as a 'ponderous carriage'.

Cottered.

Cromer.

Church Farm, Ardeley. Well worth a tea stop.
